If I play another sport can I still wrestle?

  • If you are playing a fall sport, you can start right after your season is over.
  • If you are going to play another winter sport like Basketball then you cannot wrestle.   If you try out for another winter sport and get cut, you are still welcome to join wrestling. Wrestling is a no-cut sport.
  • You can join spring season sports after the wrestling season is over.

Do boys and girls wrestle against each other?

  • In most cases at Lincoln it is not going to happen unless a girl chooses to do so.   It may occasionally happen for a boy as other schools sometimes have girls wrestling on their boys team.
  • Lincoln Girls are allowed to wrestle off against boys for a spot in the line-up.
  • Lincoln has a Girls team and a Girls coach who will work with the girls at practice and take them to all girls tournaments.

How many days a week do we practice and do I have to be at every practice?

We will practice EVERY DAY and on some Saturdays.

*Yes, you are committed to being at EVERY single practice. No Excuses.

* You are also expected to make every single date on the competition schedule.

Practice Times:

Monday, Tuesday, Friday 4:15-6:00

Wednesday & Thursday 3:15-5:00

Saturdays (occasionally)  9-11:30

What if I am not sure that I will like wrestling?

Come out for the team and try it.  Give it a few weeks and if it doesn’t work out tell the coach that it just isn’t your sport.   No hard feelings; it’s not for everyone and at least you had the courage to try out the sport. Just respect Lincoln Wrestling for giving you the chance to try.

Make sure you give it your best and don’t get discouraged because everybody will have good and bad days.  Hard work isn’t always easy, but it is rewarding. Try to push yourself to new limits and meet the challenge.  Once you have made it into a couple of competitions you should commit to finishing the season as the line-up is formed around your participation.

Do you have try-outs and/or cuts?

No.  Everyone makes the team and as long as you show up to all the practices and competitions along with following team rules, you are a member of the team.

How do I make the Varsity, JV, line-up?

You wrestle-off and the best wrestler gets Varsity, the second-best gets JV and so on down the line.  You get a chance every week to challenge for a spot.

What are the weight classes and do you make me lose weight?

The weight classes are:  106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 145, 152, 160, 170, 182, 195,  220, 285 We do not force anyone to lose weight.  Our goal is to have a wrestler with the least amount of fat and as much muscle as possible.  The best way to do this is to eat healthily and exercise.

What kind of equipment do I need and where can I buy it?
