Wrestlers Competition Procedures

1. BE ON TIME FOR THE BUS

 Be Quiet and respectful.  Always stay seated!!!

2. Follow all the regular school and team rules.  

3. The team is to stay and sit together at all times.  You must ask for the permission from a coach if you need to leave.

4. You must ride to and from the matches with the team unless you get permission from the head coach (a written note from a parent in advance).

5. Always have all of your equipment (see checklist).   

6. Wear your team sweatshirt to school on the day of competition or the day before a Saturday meet.   

7.  If you have an early dismissal or will miss a day of school because of a competition please make sure you get all of your make-up assignments.  Stay out of detention!!!  Do NOT use wrestling as an excuse for missing work.  Plan ahead!

MATCH RULES

1. Go to your coach in the corner before stepping on or off the mat.

2. In between rounds, look to the coach for your decision.

3. Always look to your coaches’ corner during breaks in the match.

4. Win or lose, always display good sportsmanship. 

5. Support your teammates, win or lose, during and after their matches. 

6. Keep your straps up on and around the mat.

7. Cheer your team and let the coaches do the coaching.

MATCH DAY 

PREP ROUTINE

Eat a healthy breakfast and have lots of fluids.  Avoid heavy foods.

ONE  hour before competition

warm-up  by jogging at different speeds  for 5-10 min

 Stretch

Drill with a partner in good focus for 15 minutes

Wrestle Hard for 3 minutes

5 sprints

Get off feet and relax for 1 hour – think about your technique

Loosen up a little (5 min) and focus as you are up to wrestle in about 10-15 min.

Right after match get sweats on, drink fluid, stretch, and evaluate for 10 minutes ONLY.  Relax to get prepared for next match.

Lincoln Wrestling is focused on building character through sport.   The program provides a positive community and educational approach that embraces the challenges of competition and applies those concepts to life.   Wrestlers will not only learn the techniques and strategies of the sport, but they also will learn about commitment, nutrition, sportsmanship, psychology, and integrity.    Wrestling promotes strength, conditioning, improves positive self -image and healthy self – esteem. Principals of the wrestling program are applied to academics and preparation for life.
